Boat Rental Requirements & Details:
The renter/operator must be 25 years old (born on the rental date in 1993 or before) and accept 100% responsibility for the safety of all passengers, activity and behavior of all passengers as well as the safe and proper use of all equipment.
The renter/operator is required to sign a document assuming full responsibility for everything that happens to them, their passengers, our boats, any other boats, any other people, and any other property as part of the check in process.
It’s important and required that renter/operator arrive 60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. For example, if your reservation is at 12:00 you’ll need to be at Chicago Water Sport Rental’s office at 11:00 to sign waivers, process deposits, for safety checks and for boat operation instructions.
At check in, the renter/operator must present a valid driver’s license (photos of ID’s are not permissible so please bring your physical ID) and a matching credit card that will be used as your security deposit and fuel deposit. The credit card security deposit is $1,000 and $2,000 if you are using a debit card. The renter/operator is required to cover the security deposit in whole.
The renter/operator is responsible for full payment of rental boat. We do not split rental payment or accept payment from anyone other than the renter/operator.
The renter/operator is the only authorized operator of the boat.
Switching passengers during your rental time is not allowed.
Insurance requires that the renter/operator must be able to understand and speak English fluently so to understand safety and operation instructions.
A cleaning fee may apply if the boat is not returned in the same condition as it was in at the start of your reservation.
Common Sense Boat Rules:
Boating on Lake Michigan is fun and offers the opportunity to create memories that will last a lifetime. In order to keep everyone safe, below are our rules that everyone needs to follow.
Life jackets are required on children ages 12 and under at all times.
Do not tamper with any safety equipment.
No smoking.
No glassware or bottles are allowed on any boat.
Removal of shoes required.
Anyone consuming alcohol must be 21 years of age or older.
Use of drugs is not permitted.
Be respectful of all belongings on board.
No property is to be removed.
Keep feet and all other body parts inside the boat while in motion.
Do not sit on the bow’s glass windows.
No diving or jumping off boat, unless from swim platform.
Boat must be anchored while swimming.
Chicago Water Sport Rentals and all of its employees are not liable for loss or damage of personal items, injury, or death.
No pets.
No littering.
Clean up after yourself.

To receive a full refund we require a 48 hour notice.
There are no refunds, credits or rescheduling for late arrivals or early returns.
If you are late for your rental you risk cancellation of your rental without refund or opportunity to reschedule.
No refunds will be given nor will rescheduling be allowed if you do not have the proper government issued identification (photos of ID’s are not permissible so please bring your physical ID).
If the renter/operator is unable to cover the security deposit and the fuel deposit at check in by using a credit or debit card the reservation will be cancelled and no refund will be given.
Your government issued ID and credit card must have the same name and the card holder must be present otherwise your reservation will be cancelled without a refund.
Renters will be refunded or they can reschedule when Chicago Water Sport Rentals determines that lake conditions are unsafe for boating at the scheduled time for the boat rental.

FAQ’s
- Are reservations required?
Yes, reservations are required and your water sport activity can be selected by clicking any of the red rental buttons throughout the site.
- What do I need to know about the jet ski check-in process?
This pertains to jet ski customers only … renters are required to arrive one hour (60 minutes) prior to departure time.
You’ll need to bring the credit card you used to make your reservation and your government issued ID. The names on both must match.
Late arrivals (not arriving 60 minutes prior to departure) are subject to reservation being cancelled without a refund.
- What’s your cancellation policy?
We have a 24 hour cancellation policy for all rental activities. However, if we need to cancel due to weather or lake conditions, we will alert you as soon as possible. At that point, we will discuss options.
- Where are you located?
We are located at 31st Street Harbor. Our exact location is at the south end of the harbor opposite of the beach. Dock J next to the boat launch, floating swimming pool, and Salerno’s restaurant. Use Google Maps and search: 31st Street Harbor, Dock J or Chicago Water Sport Rentals. Do not search using a street address.
- Where should I park?
The best place to park is in the west lot located on the SW corner of 31st street and Lake Shore Drive.
